New Islington, Manchester (formerly the Cardroom Estate) was identified as a ‘Millennium Community’ to be rejuvenated and regenerated.  Part of this regeneration included the provision of a new school, the New Islington Free School, to house 420 children in the September 2016 term.

Working with Conlon Construction as their preferred supply chain partner, Premier, with their architectural partners Vaughan Architecture, designed, manufactured and installed the visually stunning building with a feature entrance, oversailing roof, picture windows, a double height light well and a modern external cladding finish.

The 59 modules were produced at Premier’s East Yorkshire manufacturing facility, whilst the site was prepared.   The time savings offered by this method of construction were crucial in the contract being awarded due to the ongoing school place crisis in the Greater Manchester area.

The school includes a rooftop teaching space and wildlife features including bird and bat boxes and a Redstart habitat on the roof.

The New Islington Free School’s values are Creative, Innovative and Unique – and they fit well with Premier’s own values and have certainly been captured in this new school building.
